April classes at the Murray store
We have lots of classes for you to choose from during April "showers" while we look forward to the May flowers. As always, if you have ANY questions, call us 801-266-6942.
First up --
BLOCK PARTY -- It's not too late to sign up for our Block of the Month. Classes will be held on Friday, April 5 at 10 am or 10:30am; Saturday, April 6 at 9:30 am, 10 am or 10:30 am. If you have any questions, just call.
SERGER CLUB -- April 13 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Do you know where the left needle stitches vs. the right needle on your serger? Do you know where the 5/8" seam allowance falls? Come join us at Serger Club this month while we learn where the needles stitch and what to use as guidelines on your machine. You’ll also learn how to apply ribbing to knit fabrics. It’s an easy process, one you’ll use again and again on T-shirts, nightgowns, p.j.’s, and sweats.
This month’s project is a cute babygown that will be your go-to baby gift. Just keep a cute knit print and some ribbing on hand and you can put together a sweet baby gift that the new mother will love in about 90 minutes. Have it cut out in advance and you’ll have it done in less than an hour. If you don’t have a need for a baby gown right now, there will be gowns already cut out that we can sew together and donate to Intermountain Medical Center’s newborn unit. We’ll have a grand time learning and sewing and enjoying each other.
News Flash!! Dues are now $20 per month.
KNIT OR CROCHET CLASS -- April 18 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Join us to learn a new skill or refresh a forgotten one. Bring a project or find one at our store.
EMBROIDERY CLUB -- April 20 at 10 am. (Doors open at 9:30 am) This month we will CELEBRATE Mother's Day lots of other spring time events. Come join us and don't forget your show & tell items.
FUN & DONE -- April 20 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
It’s time to be thinking of Mother’s Day and what a great gift idea we have for her - a pretty pillowcase of her very own. The unique construction method mimics that ballpark favorite, the hot dog, and this project goes together quickly with just the basics of sewing skills and techniques required. Piling on the extras makes for delicious eating at the ballpark, and the same is true for this pillowcase with extra trimmings. Colorful contrasting fabrics are trimmed with a double layer of ruched (gathered) grosgrain ribbon that adds a special touch for the special mom in your life. It’s so easy that you may even want to make one for your favorite grandma, step-mom, or aunt. This is a fun project that will keep you in her thoughts every time she uses it.
Techniques learned: cutting fabric, straight stitch sewing, overcasting and ribbon ruching.
Cost: $15 plus supplies needed:
Fabric for pillowcase - 7/8 yd Standard, 1 yd Queen, 1 1/8 yds King
Fabric for band - 1/3 yd
7/8" wide grosgrain ribbon - 2 3/8 yds.
5/8" wide grosgrain ribbon - 2 3/8 yds
Thread to match 5/8" ribbon
Fabric cutting scissors
Pins
Wash-away fabric marker or FriXion pen
Basic sewing kit
May 18 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm
Don’t give your dad another tie or pair of socks this year for his special day when you can make him a really great gift in just a few hours. Come join us and have fun making this great BBQ apron fit for a king. No ruffles, no frills, just raw cooking power. When it’s not in use he can roll it up and it becomes a bag to hold all his grilling tools. Embroidered at the top is a grilling dude with the phrase "Plays with fire". You can even have Dad’s name added to it. Two pockets add to its usefulness. For smiles, one is embroidered with a chicken that says "Eat more beef" while the other is a cow that says "Eat more chicken." Let’s have some sewing fun and make him a gift that he’ll always remember came from you. (Embroidery will be done in advance.)
Techniques: cutting fabric, overcasting, hemming, making pockets and ties.
Cost: $25 plus kit, which includes blue denim or tan twill fabric, embroidered designs, binding, strapping, and buckle
Supplies needed:
fabric-cutting scissors
marking pen or pencil or FriXion pen in contrasting color
thread to match fabric
basic sewing kit
